Features of log house

Log houses mean prestigious, eco-friendly and healthy home. Log houses are understood as solid and reliable buildings. They are cosy to live in and provide a feeling of "touching the past", as softwood used for woodhouse building is 120-150 and more years of age.

Resin remaining in softwood logs positively impacts on the respiratory tract and lungs of people living in such homes. It is established that warm and natural wood colour positively influences state of mind, soothes nervous system in people and creates friendly conditions for recreation.

Timber is the main building material for log houses. Timber is a natural, human healthy and eco-friendly material. Timber is one of the oldest building materials.

Log homes keep natural humidity balance inside the house. If indoor humidity level increases, timber walls start "drinking" it. If it is too dry, wood will bring the absorbed moisture back. This way, humidity inside a log home will always remain the same as it is outside. Contrary to other types of houses, the weather does not become dry in log homes. Logs feature to accumulate excessive moisture and to return it, helps to keep the optimal room temperature. Log homes breathe, and that is why there is no need to have air-conditioning systems, as natural ventilation works through the walls.

There is no dust in log homes. Electrostatic properties of wood do not let static electric power, the reason of the formation of dust, to accumulate in the rooms. A lot of dust in the rooms can cause allergies. Therefore, people suffering from allergy are recommended to live in log homes.

Wood is a durable building material. Properly notched and maintained houses can stand centuries. There are 600-700 years" houses still standing in Scandinavian countries and Siberia. Log homes, built in accordance with modern technologies, will be reliable and durable.

Wooden walls have high heat storage capacity. In Siberia, where cold can reach -40ºC and more in winter, until long-ago people have been living in wooden homes built using logs of 20-25 cm in thickness. A wooden wall from logs of 24-26 cm in thickness has heat storage capacity equal to that of a 1.2 m brick-built wall. Wooden walls store warmth and gradually radiate it throughout the house. That is why it will be warm in a log home even in the biggest frost. Low heat circulation is characteristic for log homes. Therefore, wall surface???s temperature is similar to that of room???s temperature. This conditions comfort inside a house.

Dry wood is a good sound insulator. Physical properties of wood ensure good sound absorption and prevent sound spreading. Therefore, inside log partitions ensure noise inhibition. Wood is also outstanding for absorption and minimisation of vibration.
